Job Retention Scheme – Deadline 10 June 2020

The last date that you, as an employer, can furlough an employee that has not already been furloughed is 10 June – meaning they must not complete any work for you starting tomorrow. This will provide the required 3 week furlough period being completed before the cut-off date of 30 June 2020, when the changes to the scheme come into force.

From 1 July 2020 the job retention scheme is changing and you will be allowed to bring back furloughed employees part time, whilst continuing to receive the grant for the element of the employees pay relating to the unworked hours. This new scheme will only be available for those employees that have been furloughed prior to end of June 2020 for any 3 week period. This could have been in March, April, May or June or they could have been furloughed for the whole time the scheme has been operational. However, claims from 1 July 2020 are restricted on the number of employees that you can include, this can be no more than on any previous claim period in March – June. So those employers that have split their workforce into 2 teams of say 20 people, rotating each team in and out, will only be able to include a maximum of 20 people on their furlough claim from July 2020. They will not be able to make a claim for all 40 employees working part time.

This is based on the current guidance and further details are expected on Friday 12 June, at which point we will send a further update.
